[Summary]
Watch this video about Black Friday .The video explains how they've changed from 1983 and Now. This year’s Black Friday was on November 28 2014. Black Friday is the day before Thanksgiving and represents the shopping season.

[Opinion]
I think that this is really sad. They have really changed. One scene is about someone enjoying Black Friday, but then it changes to now and shows people getting snatched by the Police.

My Favourite Manaiakalani Film

[->Summary<-]
My Favourite movie from the manaiakalani film festival was called How to: Survive A Day At School. It was from Stonefields School Learning Hub 9. The clip was about how to “survive” at school. At first I thought it wouldn’t be funny but after a while it was! The funniest part of the movie is when the main person cheated for a test. His classmate saw him and then ripped up his answer sheet. Then sad music played while his answer sheet started to shred to bits and pieces. The actors in the film were Twiss, Samo, Jackson and Ben.

[->Opinion<-]
When I watched it I laughed the whole way through! But there was a good side to the movie as well. The movie told us how to succeed in a test. The steps were to study hard and get ready for it. There was another scene where a bully was bullying the main person. It also told us how to deal with bullies. You can watch the clip down below!

The Wish Fish

In my dreams I see… A Fish? I awoke from my sleep which seemed like a deep, deep slumber. I rose from my bed but my back kept pulling me down. It felt like I had been sleeping for 100 years. I yawned and had a big stretch..

I managed to get up. I hadn't felt this hungry in a long time. I asked Mum if there was anything for breakfast. She said that I could take some money and go to the shop and buy some food. So I walked to the store. As I walked passed the pond something caught my eye.

The pond had fish swarming around, and I smiled for the first time in months. There was one golden fish staring at me. It popped its head out and said “You… Will be very rich tomorrow. Covered in wealth.” Then he swam away. My mouth popped open and I walked back home. The next morning the fish was right. I woke up with money in my wardrobe, and my drawers were full of money as well. I was using money as a blanket!  I yelled out “WE’RE RICH!!!”

Bionic Arm That Senses!

Summary:
bionic armSomewhere in the US, Scientists have invented a new bionic arm. How it works is that the arm sends electrical signals to the nerves in the patients arm which allows the user to sense more again.

Opinion:

I think that this could be the solution for everybody with disabilities. I wish I could study mechanics so that I could build something amazing like that.

Three Steps To Help

  1. The first step is to make sure that you use 1 or 2 shapes.

  1. The second step is to duplicate your shapes using (Ctrl + d)

  1. The third step is to find a pattern to use and in the end it will look cool!

A Spooky Shattering

glass
Summary:

At the Barnsley Auction Centre in South Yorkshire, people believe that there was a break-in but the only thing they found was glass everywhere. When the security checked he found something much scarier than what he had seen. The footage shows the moment when a glass cabinet door opens by itself before shattering into pieces without any explanation!

Opinion:

I think that this is pretty scary and creepy. I wonder if ghosts are really haunting us? Now I’m really scared of ghosts.

An Act Of Kindness A Day

SUMMARY:
Every day since 2011, Lillian has been sewing a dress a day for a charity which provides clothes to young girls in need of clothing. The charity is known as “Little Dresses for Africa", but stretches to Haiti, Honduras, Thailand, Mexico and parts of the US.Each of Lillian's creations include a special twist to make them each unique. So far Lillian has sewn over 840 dresses and her goal is to have completed 1000 by her 100th birthday in May next year.

OPINION:

I think that this is very generous and if she does achieve her goal then good on her! There should also be a fund for making dresses for kids.

Restaurant Bans Ketchup

Summary:
ketchupIn Florida, Ketchup is not allowed to be served to people over 10 years old in this restaurant. The restaurant owner of Mad Fresh Bistro is tired of people asking for ketchup with their meal even when the burgers already have sauce. On their website there is also a warning telling customers that if they are over 10 years old, ketchup will not be provided.

Opinion:

I think that people should be angry with the store because they are paying for something they eat and they should eat whatever they want. If this happened in NZ I bet that people would not go there ever again.I know I would...

Mirror, Mirror In The Wall

capsuleRecently a couple found a time capsule behind their mirror in their bathroom. This time capsule was in Nevada and was showing the recent things of that time that happened to the house. The first update was a pic of how the house looked when it was first built in 1995.

I think this is pretty creepy but also very interesting at the same time. They could've also left notes about the house or anything else like a diary. Maybe I should do that...

New Charlie in the Chocolate Factory Chapter Found

charlie and the chocolate factoryA new chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has finally been shown to the public. The new chapter came after 50 years after Roald Dahl’s first childrens book came out. Charlie and the Chocolate factory was released in 1964.The new chapter was found in Dahl’s paper’s following his death in 1990.

I think this is fantastic for people that haven’t seen the movie. But it’s different because he replaces the names of people in the movie. Even though I’ve already seen it I really want to see the fifth chapter.

Gold Buried on UK Beach

dig30 bars of 24-carat gold were buried in a beach of the outer harbour in the UK by german artist, Michael Sailstofer. Luckily there were 3 friends that found a piece valued at $992.58 after an hour of digging.
I think that this is a really fun thing to do, especially for kids and they could get free gold worth tons of money! The coolest part is that its free to join and enjoy! I wish this was in New Zealand so that I could get gold.

(I would cheat and use a metal detector or a magnet and get all of it!)

Dotcom in Supreme Court

kim dot comKim Dotcom has been to the New Zealand High Court to try to get the police raid on his Mansion made illegal. The case only started earlier this week and is expected to be a few more days.On his computer was material that may be used as evidence when the USA charged him for copyright.

I think this is what Dotcom gets for stealing movies from the US. There had to be something that could stop him.

volcanoScientists in Iceland have warned that one of Iceland's biggest volcanoes, Bardarbunga maybe about to erupt. Erupting may lead to flooding or might throw out clouds of gas which could affect large parts of Europe. Bardarbunga is on an "orange" alert, the second-highest level of danger.

This is dangerous for people and the world because it might melt the surroundings which is usually Ice,I guess. But this could be a real problem to the polar Ice caps and if it melts… It could cause sea levels to rise.

World with no Food?

Imagine if we lived in a world where we didn’t need to eat. We wouldn’t serve another meal. There would only be one answer, a formula which could make a world without food possible! Which has been created by a person in California, Rob Rhinehart. The formula also known as Soylent gives all the nutrients needed to survive-all in one small packet. Rob came up with the idea after he got tired of with the high prices in supermarkets and all the time wasted on preparing meals. 40 different chemicals make up Soylent. The formula is delivered as a powder in a sealed packet along with a bottle of oil. These are mixed together to create a thick liquid to drink.

I think it’s a cool idea and I would like to live on it too.

My Isle of Man National Symbol

I chose The Isle of Man's national symbol because it really looks like three legs of a knight! The Isle of Man chose this symbol because it was actually ancient. In Mann it is known as the Three Legs of Mann or Tree Cassyn Vannin in Manx.Isle of Man also has its own competitors at the Commonwealth Games.I tried really hard to draw it but people in my class think it's cool.

Over all I like it myself.

My Long Over Stay

In my holidays I went to my nana’s house in Takanini.

Hayley was supposed to come but she said she would come on Wednesday. The first morning there, was like a regular day at home so we went to see my grandad. It was ok because my grandad and I had a big talk. When I got home I went to my friend’s house and his parents were watching tv so we had a nerf gun war. It was more like a hide and seek game but it was still fun. When Hayley finally came to see nana, we picked her up at the train station. Before she arrived she had promised to give her nintendo ds to me. She did. Yay!

Friday came and apparently Boaza came to see nana too. He said he would come at one or two o’clock. But when we went to meet him at the train station he wasn’t there.  He arrived at about nine thirty. The day after that Tui arrived on the bus.

...I liked staying at Nan’s because my brothers and sister came too...

Minecraft in Schools

When kids play games in school it sounds like it would be the most coolest afternoon ever. More schools are using Minecraft to help students learn. Over 200 schools in the UK are using it!
Minecraft is a game of blocks and you have to build homes, giant buildings and even your own islands to protect yourself from the dangers of the night. Some students play the game and then they write stories based off their experience of the game. Teachers using the game say it can help get kids who don’t like books to do more reading and writing. They can learn about history by building copies of ancient buildings, and learn maths by figuring out exactly what they need to build them.
Is your school using games, especially Minecraft, during lessons?

I really wish mine was.=)

My Awesome Sleepover

I went to Don’s house in the weekend to play with Don,Pita and Siaosi. When I got there on Saturday we started to make rubber band bracelets. After that we decided to go to the internet cafe. We got hungry there so Don and I combined our money to get cookies. When we got home we had a pillow fight.
We got bored so we went off to the park and we played soccer with Ngamanu. When it was dark we went back home and we had to stay downstairs. We had a rubber band war by shooting rubber bands at each other until we ran out of bands and then we went to sleep.

That was a fun sleepover at my friend’s house.

Tech Timeline 18/6/14

10:30 am

Today will hopefully be the day I will get to draw down my final design and cut the MDF. Sanding the pendant will be the longest job and the most difficult.

11:40 am

I just got Mr Grundy to take me to the saw machine so I could cut the MDF. When I cut it I sort of messed it up.Then Zin way told me what to do when I was finished.

12:15 pm

I have just finished and I gave it to Mr Grundy to pour the pewter in. Sadly he said that he wouldn't have it ready until next week. Other than that I am so proud and excited.

Netball Training

Thursday was our first netball lesson and it was awesome. First off we started doing a warm up by jogging, skipping and even sidestepping from a line to the fence. Then we tried passing high(overhead) and low(fire) to a partner.
The object of the game was to get your partners ankle with the ball. We then played a game that included skill and precision. There was a person holding a hoop and someone else behind them to stop the ball. We  tried to aim and throw the ball through the hoop.If the ball touched the hoop then it didn't count!
The person behind the hoop threw it back to the next person. First the hoop was on the ground then it was up to their chest and after that it was up above their heads. We won all of them.

My Secret Passcode

I am excited about getting a new password for my school Google account but I haven’t sorted out what it should be. It is really important because if any one knows it they can hack my stuff and delete my work or even add things I don’t want. I really want to be cyber safe and I don’t want to get cyber bullied so I have to do it. Hopefully someone won’t find out what my password is because that is a major worry for my parents and me.

The Unveiling

It was cloudy on Saturday morning and I was just about to watch some cartoons. Mum woke up and told me to get ready. I had a shower and got my good clothes ready. Dad woke up and told me to have breakfast. My brother got  up and we got dressed. .A few minutes later we had to go pick up my older brother and sister in the city. When we got there it was about 1:11 and it had already started. The first thing I noticed was that my cousins were there so I greeted them. It took about an hour for the service and finished around 2:03.

The headstone was read by my aunty and almost everybody cried.

Blog Post Personal Information

When we share online we will make smart decisions about what personal information we share
  • I will use my first name only
  • I am going to think carefully about what I share online and if I am not sure I will  ask my parents, teachers or principal.
  • If I can’t ask anyone or I am not sure I will  keep it private
  • I will be sharing what I am learning, new knowledge and information relevant to my learning

We have been learning to choose the right information to post online. We learnt we should never share important information such as email addresses, home phone numbers, mobile numbers, parents names, credit card numbers, full name (first and last), date of birth, and home addresses.

A lot of the time we could share our age but not our date of birth because if someone knew it they could pretend to be you.If a message comes up in my mail and it is unnecessary I could tell my parents, teachers and my principal.
